Ed is given a spot after Holmes offers to fund the expedition if the reporter is included. When Roxton raises his hand, Jenny insists on going with him, but she is rejected by Challenger because she is a woman. Explaining that his photographs of the creatures were lost when his boat overturned, Challenger invites Summerlee to accompany him on a new expedition to the "lost world," and asks for volunteers. When Challenger claims to have seen live dinosaurs, his colleague Professor Summerlee scoffs and asks for evidence. That evening, Jenny is escorted by Lord John Roxton, an adventurer and big game hunter, to Challenger's lecture at the Zoological Institute, and Ed invites them to sit with him. After the irascible Challenger strikes reporter Ed Malone on the head with his umbrella, Jennifer Holmes, the daughter of Ed's employer, Stuart Holmes, offers the injured reporter a ride into town. When his plane lands in London, crusty old professor George Edward Challenger is besieged by reporters questioning him about his latest expedition to the headwaters of the Amazon River. Nonetheless, dinosaur movies have traditionally been lumped into the sci-fi genre. Aside from the paleontological presumptions in the premise, there is little "science" in The Lost World. Allen's screenplay followed the book fairly well, telling of Professor Challenger's expedition to a remote plateau in the Amazon upon which dinosaurs still lived. Irwin Allen's Lost World (LW) & 20th Century Fox version was derailed on the way to greatness, but managed to still be a respectable, (if more modest) A-film. The first film adaptation, shot in 1925, was a milestone in many ways, but movie making and special effects had come a long way in 35 years. Intended as a grand sci-fi/fantasy epic remake of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic novel. Starring Michael Rennie, David Hedison, Claude Rains and Jill St. Irwin Allen, the producer who would go on to make the disaster film a huge success in the seventies, brought us this Saturday afternoon fodder with giant lizards posing as dinosaurs. The Eee PC can be had for as little as $299. This open, flexible, relatively powerful, and very small laptop is notable for one feature above all: Its price. The source of ire is a tiny laptop called the ASUS Eee PC. Asustek motherboards are the heart of Sony's PlayStation 2 consoles, Apple MacBooks, Alienware PCs, and some HP computers.īut that's not why they're hated. Taiwan's Asustek - better known as ASUS - is one of the most interesting, innovative and fastest-growing companies in technology.Īt its core, Asustek makes motherboards - more than any other company. Who in the hell is Asustek, and why does Microsoft hate them more than any other company in the industry? Why does Apple, Dell and Palm Computing hate them? The Most Hated Company In the PC Industry I found this article about Asus very interesting. If i'm not get used to it, may be I will remap it later. Only one little problem (for me) is position of shift key on the right side. Quality of keyboard is much better than I expect. As the screen is small, Firefox work much better in full screen mode and compact theme. eReader work perfectly while Mobipocket has problem with auto scroll. I also install Wine so I can run my two ebook readers (eReader and Mobipocket) as they don't support Linux. As seen in the photo, Picasa work great on Eee. Easy desktop mode is too limit for me, so I go with advance desktop right away. I stay with default Xandros Linux, much cleaner, leaner and faster than Windows XP. A few things that may be interested to those who have it or think about getting one. (NIKON D80 1/160 at f/1.4 ISO 200 white balance: Auto focal length: 30 mm)
